Why us?

Good question. There are some naughty paint manufacturers out there charging premium prices for fairly ordinary paint. Not with Fenwick and Tilbrook. Yes, you’ll pay a little more. But you’ll be rewarded with paint that truly lasts, that’s as smooth as a summer millpond and that goes on like a dream. But don’t get carried away: the TV looks just fine as it is.

Find your perfect colour

There’s an amazing spectrum of choice with shades rich in pigment that offer amazing depth of colour. We make yours specially, on the day you order.

We offer two collections, each with 120 colours. But ask nicely and we’ll dip into our back catalogue of discontinued colours. Ask for our Inspiration Box to see actual samples of colours 1–120, or buy painted sheets or hand-dabbed cards to match the actual colour to your room.

And if the shade you want doesn’t even have a name? We’ll create it for you using our bespoke colour-creation service. Call us on 07941 303954 or email us here for details.

What paint finish do I need?

While selecting the perfect colour might seem like the ultimate factor in achieving your desired look, choosing the correct finish is equally as important. With a number of different options to choose from and countless possible combinations, spending time considering which finishes are available to you and the unique characteristics of each is an essential part of planning your project. Learn more about the finishes and the qualities of each on our paint finishes page.

Do you sell sample pots?

Sample Pots are available in all colours and are supplied in our most popular finish, Pure Matt Plus, our most durable emulsion. This finish has a 3% sheen and is perfect for walls in all areas of the home.

What size are your sample pots?

Sample pots are hand poured and come in 100ml tins.

Can you recommend complimentary colours?

Yes – we have suggested colour schemes on each individual paint colour page of our website and our colour card layout is designed to help suggest complimentary colours, particularly important when planning a neutral colour scheme.

Will the colours shown on the free colourcard or website be accurate enough to order from?

Our free printed colour card is produced using the lithographic printing process (which, unlike paint, only uses four colours CMYK – Cyan, Magenta, Yellow & Black). We would advise choosing a painted sheet or sample pot to see the actual paint before placing an order.

In terms of the colours on our website – most screens will just represent colours using the closest RGB (Red, Green & Black) reference, which is not an accurate match to the many different pigments used in our paint colours. We would strongly advise choosing a painted sheet or sample pot to see the actual paint before placing an order.

Do you offer colour advice?

At Perfection Paint, we’re human. Apart from possibly very early on Mondays. If you need to chat, you need advice or you just don’t trust this Interweb thing, give us a call. We’re always up for a natter. Call on 07941 303954, or email us here.

How much paint do I need?

It’s always best to use the same batch. So get as much as you need in one go. If you’ve any spare, you’ll need a nice shed. We can’t help with that.

How do I prepare?

Get some scruffs on. Get into the zone. Then aim for a clean and dust-free surface. Key it with sandpaper before painting. Painting plaster? Check out our fact sheet. Just a note of caution: preparation is actually everything. Don’t expect a beautiful finish if you’re painting onto a rusty ship.

Do I need a primer?

Generally, painting virgin wood will not require a primer. Painting over surfaces like metal, unstable surfaces or surfaces previously painted with an oil-based product are common examples of when a primer is required. For further advice on when to use a primer, please refer to our fact sheet.

Can I use pure matt for woodwork?

Use Pure Matt as a fantastic alternative to chalk paints on wooden furniture, and also on internal doors and skirting boards. And there’s no need to wax.

What about MDF?

Prime first, then follow the instructions on our fact sheet.

And masonry?

Our Ultimate Masonry is fantastic for almost all masonry substrates.

How about metal?

One coat of our Multi-Surface Primer and then two coats of Exterior Eggshell will do the trick.

How many coats will I need?

You will normally need two coats, although some darker shades might need more. Please refer to the technical data sheet for the correct interval time between coats for the specific finish you are using.

How long do I need to wait between coats?

Please refer to the technical data sheet for the correct interval time between coats for the specific finish you are using. These can be found on our paint finishes page.

What about knotty wood?

Block troublesome knots with a patent knotting solution or shellac-based primer.

How can I apply your paint?

Brush, roller or airless spray is suitable for all of our paint finishes. For more information, please refer to the technical data sheet for the relevant finish.

Can I paint a radiator?

Our Eggshell finishes (both interior and exterior) can be used to paint metal so long as the metal is prepared and primed. Please refer to our technical data sheet for further information.

What makes your paint so good?

That’d be telling. What we can say is that we use only the very finest ingredients with a formulation based on our expert knowledge of creating highly durable paint. High opacity gives it great coverage and makes it easy to apply. It’s also wipeable and we make each tin fresh to order.

How long before I need to dig out my scruffs again?

Prepare well and your Fenwick and Tilbrook paint will last for many years.

How about a guarantee?

Unfortunately not. That’s because we can’t be responsible for how you apply the paint or the quality of the substrate. All we can say for sure is that our paints are made to the highest standards with the finest ingredients. Once your paint arrives, you’re in control of your brush.

Are your paints low in VOCs?

Yes! Our paints are all in the 'Minimal' VOC category with both the Pure Matt and Claypaint only having a TRACE. For more detailed VOC data, please refer to the individual technical data sheets, found on our Advice pages.
